The Mckenzie Method Of Treatment [MDT]

Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy

The Mckenzie Method and Components

Assessment

The assessment protocol is unique to the McKenzie method. It begins with taking a detailed history, followed by testing of movements to identify distinct patterns of pain response. These guide the clinician in identifying the underlying pain generator.

Research has shown that the McKenzie assessment is as reliable as CT scan and MRI’s in determining the source of the patient’s problem.

Treatment

Based on the assessment, the McKenzie therapist prescribes specific exercises and postures to form an individualized treatment plan. The patients are empowered to treat themselves. Patients with more difficult mechanical problems may require advanced MDT hands on techniques with the McKenzie therapist.

Once your pain is under control, you will be guided through a functional restoration program to return you to all the activities.

Prevention

The exercises which helped to resolve the problem can be adopted to help prevent its return. If you do have a recurrence, you will be given specific exercises for immediate self-management.

The MCKENZIE method- More facts

Research has shown that the McKenzie assessment is as reliable as CT scans and MRIS, in determining the source of the patient’s pain and the potential for recovery.

Many Musculoskeletal problems can be rapidly reversed if they are properly assessed.   50-70% of people with low back and leg pain rapidly improve, when they are given the correct treatment.

Rapid responders often include patients who have not benefited from other treatments.

The McKenzie method is the most researched physiotherapy treatment system.
